Rio Simon is among the longest and most spectacular canyons in northeastern Italy, widely celebrated within the European canyoning community for its incredible natural beauty. For anyone who loves canyoning, it’s an experience that simply shouldn’t be missed. We begin early in the morning, meeting at our base where you’ll receive a short briefing and all the necessary equipment. From there, we set off on a scenic one-hour drive into Italy, passing through the stunning Raccolana Valley. Along the way, your guide will point out various canyons visible from the road, giving you a glimpse into this remarkable landscape. Upon arriving at the small village of Roveredo, we leave the car behind and embark on a 1.5-hour hike to the canyon entrance. The anticipation builds as the surroundings grow wilder and more dramatic.
The adventure begins immediately with a beautiful narrow section, featuring waterfalls up to 15 meters high and long swimming stretches in crystal-clear, emerald-green water. After this first section, a short walk through more open terrain leads us to the second narrow gorge—arguably the most striking part of the canyon. Here, towering walls rise over 100 meters above you, creating an awe-inspiring atmosphere. In this section, you’ll have the chance to jump from waterfalls up to 10 meters high.
Following another brief walking stretch, we reach the final section of the canyon, beginning with the impressive 30-meter waterfall known as “Cathedral.” This highlight is followed by a series of beautiful jumps into deep, inviting pools—an unforgettable finale to the journey. After 6 hour trip completing the canyon, we return to Slovenia filled with smiles, adrenaline, and memories that will stay with you for a long time.
